Peer Research Ambassador Shahan Kamal

Natasha Patel

I am a senior majoring in Molecular & Cell Biology. I was involved in stints of research under the mentorship of Dr. Craig Nelson and Dr. Eric May through my first two years of college and followed that by joining the Health Research Program (HRP) during the summer after my sophomore year. Through HRP, I was able to meet my current mentor, Dr. Ion Moraru, with whom I am working to learn more about the relationship between the loss of DNA Mismatch Repair function and Colorectal Cancer through RNA-Seq expression data analysis and pathway modeling. This research has continued through my junior and senior year. During the summer of 2018, I was a Summer Student Worker for Pfizer Pharmaceutical. As part of the Primary Pharmacology Group, I worked to enhance the productivity of an electronic lab notebook application called BioBook.

In addition, I am a member of the CLAS Student Leadership Board, the Student Athlete Success Program, SOS Food Recovery, and write for the sports section of the Daily Campus. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns!
