Undergraduate Research Opportunity Description
Project Description | We have two active opportunities that the student can choose from. The first is a NIH funded randomized clinical trial of interventions for employment seeking in persons living with HIV. The second project is a SAMHSA funded project focused on medication assisted treatment for individuals with opioid use disorder. Both projects involve opportunities to conduct interviews with patients and both research sites are located in Hartford. |
Project Direction | Generally, I encourage students to gain practical skills working directly with the patients (e.g., interviewing, consenting) and the related skills (e.g., data entry). Paralleling those opportunities, I work with the student to develop and answer a research question using past completed datasets if this is a desired goal for their summer experience. Two former students presented their data at national conference, and one of these has submitted the project for publication to a journal. |
Mentorship and Supervision | Students train with an experienced research assistant until they are prepared to operate more independently. I will meet with the student regularly (weekly or biweekly) to discuss progress on any data analyses projects. |
Student Qualifications | Students will be expected to complete CITI training before research start date. |
Summer Schedule Options | Research Dates: May 23 to July 29, 2022 Schedule: M-F, 8am-4:30pm |
Project Continuation | Fall 2022, Spring 2023 |
Academic Year Time Commitment | 3-9 hours/week |
Possible Thesis Project | Yes |
