Undergraduate Research Opportunity Description
Project Description | I am seeking a summer intern to participate in my research on promoting musculoskeletal health of older adults. You would be part of a longitudinal research study in which we have collected multiple measurements of strength, flexibility, and endurance over a 15-year period. Your responsibilities would include analysis of trends in the musculoskeletal health data over time. There may be some opportunities to assist with data collection as well. |
Project Direction | This project includes data that has been collected over fifteen years, so there will be plenty to work with throughout the summer and extending into the fall and spring semesters. I will be glad to support students who are interested in continuing their research throughout the school year or who would like to complete a thesis on this topic. |
Mentorship and Supervision | I have experience mentoring students from the Health Research Program throughout the past two years, including involving undergraduate students in manuscript preparation and serving as a thesis advisor. At the beginning of the summer I will meet with my student to develop a plan for the summer to accomplish all learning objectives. I will schedule weekly individual meetings with my student as well as include students in larger group meetings. Students typically prepare an agenda for each meeting to ensure that all relevant topics are covered. |
Student Qualifications | Interested students should be proficient in Microsoft Excel. The ideal applicant would also have experience working with statistical software such as SPSS or SAS. |
Summer Schedule Options | Research Dates: May 23 to July 29, 2022 Schedule: M-F, 9am-4:00pm** I am open to flexible scheduling options including a combination of in-person and remote work. Students should be available at least Monday through Friday from 9am-4pm. Any data collection opportunities may require availability outside of working hours to accommodate participants’ schedules, however, student availability for in-person data collection will not be required in order to participate in this summer experience. |
Project Continuation | Fall 2022, Spring 2023 |
Academic Year Time Commitment | 3-9 hours/week |
Possible Thesis Project | Yes |
