Undergraduate Research Opportunity Description

Project Description We study how the brain develops and utilize gained knowledge to reverse-engineer regeneration of the brain tissue damaged by an injury or stroke. We employ a multidisciplinary approach spanning cutting edge genetics, epigenetics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, and gene therapy, which will provide a student with an opportunity to explore different approaches and select a project that aligns best with the individual’s career goals and interests.
Project Direction Summer research will help student identify a project for potential continuation part-time during the academic year. The project will be within the scope of the overall focus of the lab on studying brain development and neuroregeneration, and may involve neuronal cell culture, biochemistry, mouse neurosurgery, and neuro-bioinformatics
Mentorship and Supervision Personalized training plan consistent with student’s career goals.
Student Qualifications Enthusiasm about biomedical research. Minimum Science GPA: 3.0
Summer Schedule Options Research Dates: May 26 to July 31, 2020
Schedule: M-F, 9am-5pm
Project Continuation Fall 2020, Spring 2021
Academic Year Time Commitment 9 hours/week
