National Organizations with Free or Low-Cost Options:
Several organizations work to supply menstruators with products nationwide. These are also great resources if you are not from Connecticut or live far from sites listed on the Locater tool!
This national organization is sponsored by U by Kotex and helps collect and distribute menstrual products to people in need by partnering with over 120 programs nationwide. Allied programs collect, warehouse, and distribute menstrual products in local communities. One distribution site is actually in New Haven, CT called Beam Period Products.
#HappyPeriod is a pioneering Black-led menstrual movement that advocates for wellness by promoting decolonized health education and cultural transformation. The organization is committed to enhancing understanding and awareness of menstrual equity through storytelling, education, and advocacy. #HappyPeriod implements various initiatives for free product distribution. Their Period Production Essentials project establishes dispenser machines for convenient access and distribution at schools, community centers, and shelters. Additionally, they collaborate with Rael to provide First Period Kits, ensuring that individuals in need have access to safe menstrual products.
This organization is renowned for its advocacy efforts aimed at fostering impactful change through policy and legislation. Moreover, PERIOD offers educational materials for menstruators and allies, empowering young activists to devise innovative methods for educating their communities. Finally, PERIOD supplies products to its chapters and youth-led organizations, enabling the direct distribution of free products to communities in need.
Women in Training (WIT) was founded by twelve-year-old twins and is dedicated to promoting menstrual equity and education. The organization's flagship initiative, the WITKITS Campaign, provides bags containing donated menstrual, hygiene, and dental products to at-risk girls, low-income women, and nonbinary youth.
What Can I Do if I Run Out of Products?
While it is always recommended to use menstrual products to reduce risk of infection, there are several options for emergencies.
