Undergraduate Research Opportunity Description

Project Description	The summer research project is to examine the molecular signaling pathway that regulates fibroblast activation and monocyte-to-fibroblast transition. The student will utilize molecular, pharmacological and genetic approaches such as cell culture, Western blot, histology, gene knockout.
Project Direction	The research interest in my lab focuses on elucidating the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of kidney disease. We are particularly interested in the roles of inflammatory cells and fibroblasts in the pathogenesis of kidney injury and fibrosis.
Mentorship and Supervision	The student will participate weekly lab meeting and present his/her results on a weekly basis. I will discuss the results with the student and provide advice on subsequent study.
Student Qualifications	Basic cell biology techniques and completion of biology-related coursework are required.
Summer Schedule Options	Research Dates: May 28 to August 2, 2019 Schedule: M-F, 9am-4pm or 9am-5pm
Project Continuation	Fall 2019, Spring 2020
Academic Year Time Commitment	9 hours/week
Possible Thesis Project	Yes
