Undergraduate Research Opportunity Description
Project Description | This summer project is designed to conduct additional experiments for publication of a manuscript entitled “FOXO3 regulates bone formation of BMSC in vitro from sickle cell disease mice.” Under the supervision of the PI, the student will design primers for quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR), perform qPCR analysis for gene expression, and draft the manuscript. The student could be listed as first author or co-author of the manuscript contingent on satisfactory progress. |
Project Direction | During the summer, the student will complete experiments in PI’s lab. During the academic year, the student will focus on drafting the manuscript and conduct additional experiments when needed. The manuscript is planned to be submitted to the Journal of Cellular Biochemistry or Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications. |
Mentorship and Supervision | The PI will teach the student to conduct experiments with a hands-on approach for the first or second times. Thereafter, students are expected to conduct experiments with minor supervision. |
Student Qualifications | Students who are interested in attending medical school or entering a PhD program are qualified. |
Summer Schedule Options | Research Dates: 9-10 full-time weeks to be scheduled between May 8 and August 25, 2017 Schedule: M-F, 9am-4pm |
