Kavita is a senior majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology and minoring in Statistics and Psychology. She is also part of the Honors Program and STEM Scholar Program. In addition to research, Kavita is one of the captains of UConn Surya, which is a Bollywood Fusion dance team. She is also  a founding member for Huskies for Haiti and participates in other organizations such as Asiantation Mentoring Program and Jumpstart.

She first became involved in research during high school at Yale University School of Medicine and has continued doing research since then. She first worked in Dr. Challa Kumar's Lab as part of the Chemistry Department where her project was to identify the quantum yield of various fluorescent dyes. The following summer, she was an intern for the Health Research Program at UConn Health investigating the relationship between sickle cell disease and bone health.

Kavita is now currently doing research in Dr. Aoife Heaslip's lab investigating the parasite Toxoplasma and methods to prevent its replication and division.
