Peer Research Ambassador Grace Nichols

OUR Peer Research Ambassador Grace Nichols.

Grace is a senior majoring in Molecular and Cell Biology and minoring in Mathematics. She is a part of the Honors and STEM Scholars programs, volunteers with Kids and UConn Bridging Education and Collegiate Health Service Corps, is a peer-educator with UConn S.H.A.P.E., and fundraises year-round for HuskyTHON as a Morale Captain.

Her background in research began at UConn Health’s Center for Quantitative Medicine. As a part of Dr. Reinhard Laubenbacher’s group, she assisted with the mathematical modeling of chemotherapy resistance in triple negative breast cancer. The following summer, she joined Dr. Douglas Oliver’s neuroscience laboratory through the 2018 Health Research Program. She currently works in Dr. Oliver’s lab at UConn Health, where she is investigating the auditory system and occurrence of tinnitus in mice.

Grace was accepted into the University Scholar Program for a creative project that will be carried out in Dr. Oliver’s lab, and was awarded a SURF Award to fund her research over the summer. While continuing this work, she will also begin clinical research at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center as a part of the Undergraduate Research Assistant Program.
