SHARE Summer 2022: Research Opportunity with Dr. Beth Ginsberg

Project Mentor

Dr. Beth Ginsberg
Department: Political Science

Research Project Overview:

I am currently working (with a co-author) on an analysis of Latino voter turnout in US presidential elections. Using the Current Population Survey we are attempting to discern what influences a Latino voter to actually vote. We have also developed and incorporated other variables into this dataset. We are seeking a research assistant to help collect, organize, and format these additional variables.

Role of a SHARE Summer Apprentice:

Students will gain proficiency in collecting, organizing and handling large amounts of data while also gaining a deeper understanding of the professional academic research project. This position will allow students to gain foundational research skills that they can apply and utilize not only throughout their academic careers, but also beyond in their chosen fields. Many fields require employees to have a working knowledge of how to process, utilize, and analyze data; this position will equip students with these desirable job skills.

Summer Schedule/Time Commitment:

Hours are flexible. I would prefer starting as early as possible (May if possible) but that is open for discussion.

Preferred Qualifications:

Qualifications:
1. Attention to detail
2. Knowledge of Excel
3. Knowledge of statistics
4. Classes on voting or turnout or Latino behavior (not required but preferred.)
