Research Project Overview:

We are seeking a research apprentice to aid in the coding and analyzing of data for a large research project. Students will be handling data from the Current Population Survey from the years 1972-1996.


Role of a SHARE Summer Apprentice:

Students will be responsible for transcribing data into Excel from a large national, multi-year survey. Students will gain proficiency in handling large amounts of data while also gaining a deeper understanding of the professional academic research project. All work will be conducted remotely. This position will allow students to gain foundational research skills that they can apply and utilize not only throughout their academic careers, but also beyond in their chosen fields. Many fields require employees to have a working knowledge of how to process, utilize, and analyze data; this position will equip students with these desirable job skills.

Initially students will meet with me to learn how to code and manage the data. After this is done, students will meet with me twice per week to review the already coded data. The student will also learn how the data is used in the research.


Summer Schedule/Time Commitment:

Hours are flexible. Weekly meetings will be arranged at the convenience of both faculty and student.


Preferred Qualifications:

A basic knowledge of statistics is preferred but not required. Any statistical knowledge needed can be acquired during the summer. Good organizational skills and a sharp attention to detail are necessary.
