Sarah (she/her/hers) is a senior majoring in Biology and double minoring in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies and Molecular Cell Biology. Sarah is in the Honors program as an Honors Scholar and University Honors Laureate and on the Pre-Medical track. As an aspiring MD/MPH, Sarah’s mission is to be involved in clinical research and to provide quality care for medically underserved communities in order to minimize healthcare disparities.

Being involved in research since freshman year, Sarah has engaged with wet lab research and field work within the Rice Lab at Lehigh University and currently as an undergraduate researcher in the EEB Bolnick Lab. Working towards her Honors thesis, Sarah received the SURF Award and is researching the sexual dimorphic immune-endocrine interaction in the host-parasite system of the model organism, the three spine stickleback fish. As a past clinical research intern in the Reichenberger Lab at UConn Health, Sarah researched the quality of life measures of keloid patients and participated in the recruitment and enrollment of patients into several studies. Both research experiences have given her opportunities to publish and to present at research conferences with the help of the OUR Conference Presentation Award (formerly named the OUR Travel to Present Research Award).

As a Change Grant-Co-op Legacy Fellow, Sarah is currently implementing a STEM enrichment program at a Domestic Violence Crisis Center. Passionate about restorative social justice, Sarah hopes to increase the educational interest and attainment of these disadvantaged children through a trauma-informed program that teaches them of science fundamentals and health literacy. Driven to create change, Sarah has also recently joined Healthcare Huddle, an innovative startup dedicated to sharing easy-to-read healthcare news on social media and in weekly newsletters.

With research being at the core of her scientific interests, Sarah urges all undergraduates to partake in research endeavors to discover and develop their career goals. Feel free to contact Sarah with any questions regarding basic science research, clinical research or Pre-Med questions!
