Research Project Overview:
We have an ongoing study on the use of ride-on-toys to improve upper extremity function in children with hemiplegia. The student will help with analyzing data collected as part of the project. There are multiple aspects of the child’s performance that we are looking at – their motor skills, affect, attentional skills, and engagement during sessions. We will train the student in one of these schemes and have them start working on understanding changes in these skills with training.
We also have another project looking at a review of literature on technology-based interventions to improve arm function in children with cerebral palsy that the student can assist with.
Finally, we have a summer camp project to implement ride-on-toy training in a camp dedicated for children with hemiplegia. We need help to prepare for the camp this year.
Role of a SHARE Summer Apprentice:
Participant recruitment, Data coding, analysis, interpretation, literature review, preparation of materials for the camp.
Student will need to complete CITI human subjects training to be added to the IRB. We will meet on a weekly basis for training the student on their specific task. Student will have access to training videos we have recorded in our lab. They will also have access to faculty and graduate student on a weekly basis (via email) to answer any questions they have at any time besides the weekly meeting time.
Summer Schedule/Time Commitment:
Workdays and times will be flexible and based on project demands. Target hours – 6-9/week with flexible schedule. There will be weekly meetings, time decided based on mutual convenience of students and faculty.
Work on the camp project would need to be completed before June 10th, all other projects are ongoing projects.
Apprentice can work around other commitments.
Preferred Qualifications:
We are looking for passionate, energetic, and empathetic undergraduate students interested in working on projects involving infants, children, and adults with disabilities. Students are required to complete CITI training given that our research is with human subjects (details will be provided by the study PI).

Students are encouraged to plan ahead for this. For example, if you are going home for spring break, consider bringing documents back to campus with you.
