Jamie is a senior studying molecular and cell biology with a minor in Spanish. She is a student in the UConn Honors Program and Special Program in Medicine, and serves as president of Global Brigades, an international aid organization that strives to build independent communities. Jamie spent a semester studying at the University of Granada in Spain, where she later interned in the pediatric emergency department. Jamie works with the Undergraduate Research Assistant Program at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, and dreams of continuing to work with pediatrics throughout her career.

Jamie is a UConn IDEA Grant recipient in the 11th cohort. Under the mentorship of Dr. Kumar Venkitanarayanan, she will investigate the effects of probiotic strains on Clostridium difficile, a potentially fatal infection which is becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotic treatment. Jamie is passionate about connecting with people, learning about new cultures and languages, and looking in unexpected places for solutions to problems.
