Anthony Zuo is a senior double majoring in Molecular & Cell Biology and Physiology & Neurobiology. On campus, he is a Resident Assistant and an Alternative Break Program Director for UConn Community Outreach. Outside of campus, he enjoys a variety of sports including basketball, soccer, and volleyball. He is also passionate about cooking!

Anthony got involved in research starting the summer after his freshmen year through the Health Research Program (HRP), where he joined Dr. Benjamin Sinder’s lab under the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UConn Health. His project focused on mapping the endosteal and periosteal contribution of cortical bone formation in the femur and tibia. The project was presented at UConn Health’s Summer Research Day and UConn’s Spring Frontier. Anthony continued to work with Dr. Sinder for the following two summers where he explored stem cell therapy treatments for mouse models with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), a rare bone disorder that causes bone brittleness. This past summer, he received the SURF Award to explore whether performing cell therapy treatments on various aged OI mouse can result in different outcomes. Outside the research lab, he is passionate about rare disease advocacy and was awarded the Co-op Legacy Fellowship Change Grant to host UConn’s first Rare Disease Day Symposium.

Anthony is passionate about helping students find research positions on or off campus. As a student from California, he understands the challenges of looking for research opportunities during the summer. He hopes to use his experience to make the process easier.

Anthony plans to apply to medical school after graduation.
