Peer Research Ambassador Abigail LaFontan.

Abigail is a senior majoring in Political Science and minoring in French. She is a member of the Special Program in Law, a member of the Honors Program, a member of Club Raquetball, the secretary for Mock Trial Society, an administrative assistant for the Political Science Department, the President of Pi Sigma Alpha, and a BOLD Scholar.

Abigail started her research experience during her first semester at UConn as a Bennett RA working with Professor Kashwan on his new research regarding Town Conservation Commissions (TCCs). She then received a SHARE award to continue her work with Professor Kashwan into the spring during which time she conducted interviews to learn more about the role of TCCs.

Abigail then pursued a UConn IDEA Grant and conducted her IDEA grant project during the summer between her sophomore and junior year. Through this community service and research project Abigail created a garden at the summer camp in her town and taught the campers how to grow their own food. She also surveyed their parents about food awareness.

Most recently, Abigail is one of the 9 members of the first cohort of the UConn Chapter of the BOLD Women's Leadership Network. As a BOLD Scholar Abigail conducted her leadership project, on the topic of food culture, over this past summer.
