Olivia (she/her) is a junior majoring in Political Science and Statistics with minors in Public Policy and Analytics. Olivia is a member of Law Society and Empowering Women in Law. She also serves as World Health Organization committee director for UConn Model UN, the Academic Chair of Alpha Lamba Delta, and the Vice President of Ecoposium. Olivia is also the Supplemental Instructor for STAT 1100Q through the Academic Achievement Center. Olivia got involved in research her senior year of high school through the AP Capstone Scholar Program, where she researched Social Media use during Covid-19 and possible implications on social and emotional well-being.
During her first year at UConn, Olivia was a Bennett Research Assistant for Dr. Jason Byers of the Political Science Department. During second semester of freshman year, she joined the Systematic Health Action Research Program (SHARP Lab) funded through the NIH under the mentorship of Dr. Blair T. Johnson in the Psychology Department focusing on MBSR and MBCT trials evaluating efficacy of programs. The following summer she participated in Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts Research Experiences (SHARE) under the guidance of Dr. Zehra F. Kabasakal Arat in the Political Science Department, focusing on a project regarding Human Rights Language in government programs in Turkey from 1900s on. She then presented at the UConn Frontiers in Undergraduate Research Exhibitions in Spring 2024. During Fall 2024, Olivia started working under the guidance of Dr. David Richards as a CIRIGHTS Research Assistant.
Olivia recently was a part of the first cohort of the Caxide Scholars Program. Through this opportunity Olivia engaged in a student led research project under the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Richards. Her project focused on analyzing torture laws within the United States. After completing her undergraduate degrees, Olivia hopes to attend a PhD or JD program to continue working in the field of research and legal analysis while making a positive impact on the community!
