Work-Study Research Assistant Program – For 2016-17 Student Participants

Student participants in the 2016-17 Work-Study Research Assistant Program are expected to complete the following program requirements:

  • Complete an online report on your fall semester work by Monday, December 5, 2016.
  • Complete an online report on your spring semester work by Friday, May 5, 2017.
  • Complete one of the following reflection requirements:
    • A reflection paper. In 2-3 double-spaced pages, please address these three questions:
      1. What did you do and what did you learn in assisting with your mentor’s research?
      2. How did your work on the project meet or differ from your expectations?
      3. How did your participation in this program impact your undergraduate experience at UConn?

We encourage students to discuss this reflection with their mentors. Please submit the reflection via email attachment to our@uconn.edu no later than Friday, May 5, 2017.

    • A poster presentation. Students choosing this option must prepare a poster and present it at the Frontiers in Undergraduate Research Poster Exhibition on Friday, April 7, 2017 (3:00-4:30) or Saturday, April 8, 2017 (10:30am-12:30pm). To select this option, you must complete the application to present at Frontiers (via the link on the Frontiers webpage) by March 10, 2017. OUR will cover poster printing costs up to a specified dollar amount; we will provide additional information to you about the parameters and deadlines for that funding and the steps you need to take once you have registered to present a poster at the event.

The time spent by students completing the online reports, writing the reflection paper, and preparing and presenting a poster should be reported as work time. As students approach their maximum award amounts, we encourage students and faculty to plan ahead and reserve work hours for these tasks.
