Undergraduate Research Opportunity Description

Project Description We are currently pursuing a number of approaches, including the use of transgenic mouse models and cell lines, to learn more about the precise mechanisms of human tumorigenesis. In addition, we are continuing a major initiative seeking additional genes that contribute to human neoplasia.
Project Direction Pathogenesis of human endocrine tumors, especially parathyroid and craniofacial tumors. The roles of the cyclin D1 oncogene and the CDC73 tumor suppressor gene in neoplasia.
Mentorship and Supervision Student will be given didactic instruction on relevant background and “hands-on” training in relevant laboratory methods. One of the mentors or a trained laboratory staff member will be available for questions/help at all times that the student is in the lab. The student will check-in frequently with one or both of the mentors to monitor progress and provide feedback.
Student Qualifications Coursework in Genetics and/or Molecular Biology
Summer Schedule Options Research Dates: 9-10 full-time weeks to be scheduled between May 8 and August 25, 2017
Schedule: M-F, 9am-5pm
Project Continuation Fall 2017, Spring 2018
Academic Year Time Commitment 3-9 hours/week
